Lake Sammamish

Icon Lake SammamishThe Foundation funded a volunteer effort that restored a six-acre section of critical habitat back to its natural condition. The effort focused on an area of Lake Sammamish State Park where native wildlife and plants were displaced, causing disruption to ecosystems. This important project focused on removing invasive species and replanting with native vegetation, improving vital salmon runs, providing additional room for blue heron and other species, and restoring wetland areas.

Lake Sammamish State Park is a 512-acre day use park with more than 6,800 feet of waterfront on Lake Sammamish. For centuries, the area surrounding the lake was an important cultural zone for local Indian tribes. Today, the park offers swimming beaches, a boat launch, picnic facilities and trails through deciduous forest and wetlands.
