Gingko Forest
The Foundation funded interpretive panels at the visitor’s center in Ginkgo Petrified Forest State Park. The panels tell the story of the Ice Age floods, which carved new landscapes across a four-state area during the last Ice Age and are among the most significant geological events in Washington’s history.
The discovery of petrified wood in the 1930s led to the creation of Gingko Petrified Forest State Park as a national historic preserve. The 7,470-acre park offers year-round camping in the Wanapum Recreational Area and 27,000 feet of freshwater shoreline on the Columbia River.
